From Bhavka Dock to Your Doorstep: The Journey of Your KRAVVE Seafood

Mumbai's Bhavka Dock is where our seafood journey begins at 4 AM every morning. Here's the complete hour-by-hour journey of your fish from catch to your kitchen in Pune.

By KRAVVE Fresh

Where Mumbai's fish begins

Bhavka Fishing Harbour in Mumbai — formally known as the Sassoon Dock area — is one of the busiest fishing harbours in Maharashtra. Every night, dozens of fishing vessels return from the Arabian Sea with their catch. By 3–4 AM, the harbour is alive with activity: vendors, ice suppliers, wholesale buyers, and the rhythmic unloading of fish from boats to dock.

This is where your KRAVVE seafood begins.

Night 0 – 10 PM: You place your order

The night before your delivery, you browse the KRAVVE catalog and place your order by 9 PM. A surmai fillet, 500 grams. Curry-cut pomfret, one kilogram. Whatever your kitchen needs tomorrow morning.

Your order is confirmed, and our team prepares the sourcing list for the next morning's dock visit. Every gram of protein ordered tonight corresponds to exactly what gets sourced at dawn.

4 AM: The dock visit

At 4 AM, our sourcing team arrives at Bhavka Dock. The harbour is already fully operational at this hour — boats have been unloading since midnight, and the best fish sells out by 5–6 AM.

Our team navigates the dock with a specific shopping list — your order list from the night before. They inspect fish across multiple vendors, looking for:

  • Bright, clear eyes (the most reliable freshness indicator)
  • Bright red gills
  • Firm flesh that springs back under pressure
  • Clean, oceanic smell — not "fishy"
  • Appropriate size and weight for the ordered portions

Anything that doesn't pass visual inspection doesn't come back. We'd rather come back with less fish than the right amount of substandard fish — and source the remainder from an alternate vendor or tell customers honestly about limited availability.

5 AM: Iced and in transit

Selected fish are immediately packed in food-safe ice — not tap water ice cubes, but food-grade ice blocks that maintain temperature without contamination risk. Everything is loaded into insulated transport boxes and begins the 3-hour journey from Mumbai to Pune.

The route: Bhavka Dock → Pune Expressway → Our processing facility. No intermediate stops, no temperature breaks. The cold chain is maintained continuously from dock to facility.

7 AM: Processing begins

Fish arrives at our Pune processing facility by 7 AM. Everything is inspected again on arrival — any piece that doesn't meet our standards at this second checkpoint is rejected, not processed.

Processing for each piece follows the customer's specified cut:

  • Whole fish: cleaned, scaled, degutted
  • Curry cut: standard pieces suitable for curry preparations
  • Fillet: bones removed, skin-on or skinless as requested
  • Specific cuts: custom sizes noted at ordering

Every piece is triple-washed during processing — first wash removes surface debris, second wash with a food-safe rinse removes bacteria, third wash with clean water prepares for packing.

8 AM: Packing with traceability

Processed fish is immediately packed in sealed food-safe packaging. Each pack includes:

  • Ice packs sufficient for 2+ hours of cold chain maintenance
  • A label with: item name, cut type, weight, pack time, and source information
  • Order details for the specific customer

The source label is not a formality — it's our accountability marker. If you receive your pack and see "Bhavka Dock, Mumbai" on the source label, that fish was at Bhavka Dock this morning, not in cold storage since yesterday.

9–10 AM: Delivery to your doorstep

Packed orders are sorted by delivery area and handed to our delivery team. Area-wise routing ensures efficient delivery while maintaining the cold chain.

Your doorbell rings before 10 AM. You receive an ice-box packed delivery — inspect it at the door. The fish should pass every freshness test from the guide above. If it doesn't, reject it. That's your right, and we honor it without question.

Total time: under 12 hours from dock to door

From 4 AM at Bhavka Dock to 10 AM at your Pune home: 6 hours. From catch (the previous night) to your kitchen: under 12 hours.

This is what "fresh" should mean. Not "chilled in cold storage for 24 hours." Not "sourced this week." Twelve hours from water to your kitchen.

Why we named Bhavka Dock specifically

We could have said "sourced from Mumbai" — vague enough to cover any supply chain, transparent enough to sound credible. We chose to name Bhavka Dock because:

  • Specificity creates accountability — if we name the dock, you can verify it
  • It builds genuine trust rather than marketing trust
  • It's accurate — this is exactly where our seafood comes from
  • It educates consumers about where their food actually originates

No other protein delivery service in Pune names their source dock. We do because we believe supply chain transparency is not just a marketing differentiator — it's a responsibility to the people whose families eat this food.
